Dune du Pilat and Arcachon Bay
Climbing the steps of the Dune du Pilat hand in hand, towering over a hundred metres above forest and ocean, makes an unforgettable moment at sunset. Just next door, Arcachon Bay invites you to pinasse-boat rides, with the smell of fresh oysters eaten on the quays of Andernos, Gujan or Bird Island with its stilted huts.
Cap Ferret and Atlantic beaches
Between the bay and the ocean, the Cap Ferret peninsula lines up fishermen’s villages, colourful huts and long beaches pounded by the surf. Climbing the two hundred and fifty-eight steps of the red-and-white lighthouse is a classic to do together. Further north, Lacanau and its surf beach draw wave lovers, perfect for an evening bonfire on the sand.
Estuary and Cordouan Lighthouse
To the north, the Gironde estuary, a vast ribbon of water, shelters the Vauban citadel of Blaye and the legendary Cordouan Lighthouse, a Versailles of the seas set offshore. A boat excursion for two promises a day out of time. On Lyad, members from the Gironde share their secret beaches and salty-air restaurants; it is up to you to find someone to taste them with.
